An Innovative, Court-Approved Co-Parenting Program
That Puts Children First
SELA Dispute Resolution’s Co-Parenting Program is a trusted, court-approved educational course designed to help separated and divorced parents reduce conflict, improve communication, and protect their children from the emotional fallout of divorce.
This 8-hour hybrid learning program blends flexibility with accountability, combining asynchronous online learning and two mandatory in-person sessions—making it ideal for busy parents who need both structure and convenience.
Flexible Online Learning + Expert-Led Sessions
Participants complete each section at their own pace. After passing the online quizzes and meeting the learning objectives, parents progress to the next module. This ensures steady improvement and real-world skill building without time pressure.
Throughout the course, SELA instructors—experienced family law attorneys—are available to answer questions and guide participants through common legal and emotional challenges in co-parenting.
Note: While our instructors are licensed attorneys, the program does not provide legal advice. All participants should consult their own attorney for individualized counsel.
The course includes:
Eight one-hour online modules focused on communication, conflict resolution, and cooperative parenting.
Two in-person learning sessions (each two hours) scheduled monthly for participant flexibility.

Benefits of SELA’s
Co-Parenting Program
for Parents
1. Smoothly Transition from Ex-Spouses to Co-Parents
Divorce or separation changes the relationship, but parenting continues. Our program helps parents redefine their roles from partners to cooperative co-parents, creating a more stable, child-centered dynamic.
2. Understand How Conflict Impacts Your Child’s Well-Being
Parents learn how ongoing conflict, anger, and stress can affect their child’s emotional development and adjustment. We focus on helping parents minimize tension so children can thrive in both homes.
3. Recognize Your Role in Family Conflict
The course encourages self-awareness by helping parents identify personal triggers and behavioral patterns that contribute to conflict, turning blame into accountability and progress.
4. Master Communication and Conflict Resolution Skills
Through guided lessons and practical exercises, parents learn to manage anger, communicate effectively, and problem-solve without hostility. These skills improve not only the co-parenting relationship but also the child’s sense of security.
5. See Divorce Through Your Child’s Eyes
Parents gain a new understanding of the child’s perspective, learning how parental conflict feels from a child’s point of view and how to reduce the emotional burden children often carry after separation.
6. Gain Insight into the Legal and Court Process
Because the course is taught by family law attorneys, parents receive valuable education about how courts view conflict—and how cooperative parenting can positively influence custody outcomes.
1. Builds a Calm, Stable Home Environment
When parents cooperate instead of compete, children experience a more relaxed and peaceful home atmosphere, which allows them to thrive emotionally and academically—even after divorce or separation.
2. Teaches Healthy Communication Through Parental Modeling
Children learn by watching their parents. As parents develop stronger communication and conflict-resolution skills, kids naturally learn how to express themselves clearly and resolve differences respectfully.
3. Keeps Both Parents Actively Involved
Successful co-parenting increases the likelihood that children maintain healthy, consistent relationships with both parents, which research shows leads to higher self-esteem and better long-term outcomes.
4. Reduces Future Relationship Challenges
By witnessing effective conflict management, children are less likely to repeat cycles of conflict or experience relationship difficulties later in life. SELA’s program plants the seeds for emotional intelligence and resilience.
5. Restores Hope and Security
A stable parenting relationship gives children hope and confidence that their family can function peacefully, even in two homes. This reassurance helps prevent anxiety, guilt, and divided loyalty.
6. Encourages Parents to Lead with Love
The program helps parents demonstrate unconditional love and support without competition or tension, showing their children that family bonds endure—even when circumstances change.
Benefits of SELA’s
Co-Parenting Program
for Children
SELA Dispute Resolution’s Co-Parenting Program does more than help parents and children—it creates ripple effects that strengthen entire communities. By reducing family conflict and promoting cooperation, the program contributes to healthier homes, lower court costs, and more stable future generations.
Benefits of SELA’s
Co-Parenting Program
for Society
1. Reduces Litigation and Court Congestion
When parents learn how to resolve disagreements outside of the courtroom, it leads to fewer custody disputes, lower legal fees, and reduced strain on the court system. This benefits families and taxpayers by conserving judicial resources and public funds.
2. Prevents Risk Behaviors in Adolescents
Research shows that children from high-conflict divorces are at greater risk for substance abuse, academic failure, teen pregnancy, and delinquency. By teaching parents how to co-parent peacefully, the SELA program helps reduce these long-term social costs and fosters stronger, more resilient youth.
3. Strengthens Modern Family Structures
Today’s families come in many forms. By expanding the definition of “family” to include cooperative parenting across separate households, the SELA program preserves family bonds and promotes emotional health across generations. The result is a stronger social fabric rooted in empathy, respect, and shared responsibility.
